Russian oil major Lukoil has spudded the Lengupa-1 well on the Cóndor block in Colombia`s Llanos basin, the company`s foreign subsidiary Lukoil Overseas said in a statement.

Lukoil is drilling the well in Paratebueno, Cudinamarca department, to a vertical depth of 2,700m. Drilling is due to last 4.5 months, according to the statement.

Lukoil signed a rig contract with Nabors International of the US after a public tender.

Drilling marks first time that Lukoil will use casing pipe technology while constructing the well to case while drilling simultaneously.

Lukoil signed in 2002 an agreement that gave it a 70% operating stake in the 3,089km2 block. Colombian state oil company Ecopetrol holds the balance. The agreement includes a six-year exploration and 22-year production phase if commerciality is declared.
