Brazil`s federal energy company Petrobras (NYSE: PBR) has made an offer for US fuel company Esso`s assets in Brazil and is awaiting a response from parent company ExxonMobil (NYSE: XOM).
Petrobras` offer is only for Esso`s Brazilian assets, Petrobras international director Jorge Zelada said during a breakfast with journalists in Rio de Janeiro, declining to give further details on the bid.
"The offer for Esso assets in Chile and Uruguay will be made in a second stage. The negotiations have not started yet," Zelada said, adding Petrobras is not interested in Esso assets in Argentina.
ExxonMobil has not commented on its plans to sell assets in South America, saying only it plans to stay in Argentina.
