Vienna (dpa) - The price for crude oil produced by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) fell by $2.91 last Friday, as global oil prices were pushed down by the financial crisis, the Vienna-based cartel reported on Monday.

One barrel (159 liters) of OPEC crude stood at $86.37 Friday, compared with $89.28 on the previous day.

"Little support came from news that the 700-billion-dollar (509 billion euros) emergency rescue bill, which had been rejected earlier in the week, passed US Congress on Friday," oil consultants JBC Energy said in Vienna.

In the course of last week, OPEC's oil price dropped by $11.53.

The cartel calculates an average basket price based on 13 important brands produced by its members.
