Petrobras started refining oil coming from the Santos Basin’s pre-salt layer, on June 30, at the Capuava Refinery (Recap), in São Paulo. This is a historical milestone for the global oil industry.
At 28.5o API and with low acidity levels and low sulfur content, this high-quality oil is lifted under rather severe conditions: a water depth of 2140 meters, more than 3,000 meters from the seabed, nestled under 2,000 meters of salt, and at a distance of 300 km off the coast of the state of São Paulo.
The pioneering processing of this oil will allow the company to prove the yield and derivative quality on the commercial scale.
