The board of the Brazilian Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) approved a resolution establishing the specifications of diesel oil for road use. With it, the regulator requires mandatory marketing in Nationwide, from January 1, 2014, only the diesel S-10 (10 parts per million - ppm) and S-500 (500 ppm), with low sulfur, for the fleet of trucks, buses and other light duty diesel vehicles to use the road.
This measure closes the cycle of planned changes since 2009 for diesel oil and contributes to the reduction of pollutant emissions, benefiting the environment and human health. The new regulation replaces the ANP Resolution No. 65/2011.
The approved text deletes references to the S-50 diesel (off the market since the end of 2013) and S -1800 diesel, which will no longer be sold in the Brazilian market on 1 January 2014. The list of cities where it should be marketed diesel S-10 will be released on the ANP website. The new resolution also sets deadlines and rules for the transition between the marketing of S-1800 and S- 500. Distributors and retail sellers of municipalities in which this migration will occur within 60 and 90 days, respectively, to drain their inventories of diesel S1800 acquired up to December 31 this year.
The introduction of diesel with lower sulfur content in the Brazilian market is gradually being taken by the ANP. In 2006 , the S - 500 has been marketed in 237 municipalities of the metropolitan regions of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre, Recife, Fortaleza, Salvador, Curitiba, Campinas, Bethlehem, Aracaju, Vitoria, Santos (São Paulo state), São José dos Campos (São Paulo state) and the Steel Valley (Minas Gerais state) and in 2009 , the migration of the diesel S-1800 to S-500 and the input of diesel with low sulfur content, was initiated at the time the S-50 diesel.
From January 1, 2014, diesel S-500 will be marketed nationwide, with the exception of the cities of Recife, Fortaleza and Belem and its metropolitan regions in which the compulsory marketing is exclusive of diesel oil low sulfur S-10. Unlike the diesel S-500, S-10 is only available at the stations listed in the resale of the NPA website. Currently, there are 4173 and 8244 required volunteers, totaling nearly 12,400 retail stations across the country. The diesel-powered vehicles manufactured from January 1, 2012 that have SCR technology (Selective Catalytic Reduction) must use only diesel S10.
