Throughout 2024, Cigás foresees an investment of approximately R$ 87 million in expanding the natural gas distribution system. The announcement was made at the "Amazon Oil, Gas, and Energy - 2024" conference, promoted by the Government of Amazonas, through the State Secretariat of Energy, Mining, and Gas (SEMIG), with the support of Sebrae.
This amount is included in the concessionaire's five-year business plan (2024 to 2028), approved by its Board of Directors last December. This investment will enable the construction of an additional 35 kilometers (km) of gas pipelines in the Amazonian capital, as well as the acquisition of materials for works to be carried out over the next two years. The existing distribution network already spans 284 kilometers.
At the event, the state's vice-governor, Tadeu de Souza, emphasized that Amazonas contributes to a national energy security strategy and congratulated Cigás for its investments and expansion plan aiming to reach a broader consumer base.
According to Cigás' CEO, Heraldo Câmara, this year's investment will enable the start of construction on the Aparecida-Mauá gas pipeline (North-East Ring), which will allow the interconnection of the Aparecida natural gas distribution system, in the neighborhood of the same name, following the BR 174 and AM 010 highways, to the Mauá distribution system, in the Mauazinho neighborhood, increasing the system's capacity and operational flexibility of the natural gas distribution network (RDGN). He also emphasized that the Company has been operating for 13 years and has already invested around R$ 940 million in the natural gas distribution system.
Importance of the Amazon Oil, Gas, and Energy Conference
The "Amazon Oil, Gas, and Energy" conference opened the annual agenda of activities in the state's sector, aiming to encourage and attract investors interested in exploring business opportunities in the Oil and Gas sector, highlighting tax incentives and government policies for sector development.
The Secretary of State for Energy, Mining, and Gas, Ronney Peixoto, highlighted Cigás' partnership in the event, its important role in providing greater energy security to the state through natural gas distribution, as well as its capacity to expand its services to companies, residences, and increase its availability for a larger number of vehicles. "In this sense, Amazonas takes an important step in the energy transition role," he said.
At the event, Cigás participated in the panels "Transportation & Distribution of Natural Gas in Amazonas," "Technology & Innovation in the Oil, Gas, and Energy Segments," as well as the roundtable "Female Leadership in the Oil, Gas, and Energy Segments," and the panel "How to do business in the state of Amazonas."
The Company also had a booth in the institutional exhibition area, providing information about natural gas distribution and commercialization services and the advancements of the natural gas market in Amazonas.
