The need for the conscious use of natural resources is a topic that has already been widely discussed in society – and has recently started to emerge as a consumption trend among Brazilians. According to a survey by Itaú Unibanco and Rede, spending on equipment for capturing and reusing rainwater increased by 290% in the fourth quarter of 2022, compared to the same period in 2021, and by 79% in the number of transactions . The measure, in addition to generating savings in the future, is an example of environmentally conscious consumption.
The availability of new, more accessible technologies also impacted spending on solar energy, which recorded a 173% jump in revenue and a 95% jump in the number of transactions in the period. In addition to being a renewable and inexhaustible source of energy, the technology brings several advantages to the environment – it does not release gases or pollute the air, land and water, in addition to not interfering with global warming. Resources for the use of natural gas also increased – 255% in the amount transacted and 234% in the volume of operations.
The data indicate that the concern with sustainability is a growing theme in the daily life of the Brazilian population. The insights are from the Consumption Behavior Analysis report, which provides a quarterly overview of Brazilian spending – an analysis based on purchases made with Itaú Unibanco cards, sales made on Rede systems, the bank’s means of payment company , and payments via Pix (from CPF to CNPJ). The numbers refer to the 4th quarter of 2022, compared to the same period of 2021.
