The sales of hydrated ethanol by São Paulo mills grew significantly by 31.4% in the last week, compared to the previous period, reaching the highest volume of the 2023/24 crop.
According to researchers from Cepea, the need to replenish stocks and the good advantage of the biofuel at the pumps led distributors to acquire large quantities of hydrated ethanol. Additionally, the potential increase in ICMS (Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services) on gasoline, diesel, and biodiesel scheduled for the beginning of next month prompted units to advance their purchases of biofuel.
From January 15 to 19, the CEPEA/ESALQ Indicator for hydrated ethanol in São Paulo closed at R$ 1.9012/liter (net of ICMS and PIS/Cofins), a 3.14% increase compared to the previous week. For anhydrous ethanol, the CEPEA/ESALQ Indicator was R$ 2.1067/liter (net of PIS/Cofins), a 2.48% increase.
