Foresea, a leading offshore drilling company, is developing a range of technological innovations that combine emissions reduction with increased energy efficiency in its operations. Some of these projects will be presented at the upcoming SPE Brazil Sustainability Symposium, taking place on April 15–16 in Rio de Janeiro.

Foresea’s innovation package will be showcased during the “Energy Efficiency” presentation by the company’s Innovation Coordinator, Adriano Calixto. He reveals that some of the solutions under development—focused on optimizing the operation of systems and equipment such as diesel engines, thrusters, and other electrical consumers—are already capable of delivering significant results, with a potential reduction of around 10% in fuel consumption and emissions. Pilot tests conducted on one of the company’s drilling rigs confirmed savings of more than 1,000 m³ of diesel and over 3,000 tons of CO₂ equivalent in 2024 alone.

In addition to innovations already in practice and showing promising outcomes, Foresea will also present several cutting-edge projects still under development, with high potential impact for the industry. These include reducing refrigerant gas emissions and the creation of prescriptive operation plans based on future data modeling.

“We have a series of solutions being developed internally by our innovation department—some already showing impressive results, and others with strong potential to significantly improve the industry’s efficiency and sustainability. That’s what we’re bringing to the market at the event,” says Calixto.

About the Event:

The SPE Brazil Sustainability Symposium is in its second edition. The first was held in October 2023, also in Rio de Janeiro. The event is organized by SPE Brazil, the Brazilian section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), a global association of E&P professionals.

The opening session will feature a keynote presentation by Mauricio Tolmasquim, Director of Energy Transition and Sustainability at Petrobras. The program also includes executives from Equinor, Shell, Repsol/Sinopec, and institutions such as ANP (Brazilian National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels), EPE (Energy Research Office), CCS Brasil, among others.
