Fuel and lubricants sector registers 1.8% drop in June, points out Stone Retail Index (IVS)

In the annual comparison, the segment recorded the highest increase observed in the month, at 11.9%.

The Fuel and Lubricants sector saw a 1.8% decline in sales volume in June, according to the Stone Retail Index (IVS). On an annual basis, the segment recorded the highest increase observed in the month, at 11.9%. The study, which tracks retail movement in the country on a monthly basis, is an initiative by Stone, the main partner of Brazilian entrepreneurs.

On a monthly basis, the other four of the eight segments analyzed showed growth in June. The highest increase was recorded in Construction Materials (2.1%), followed by Other Articles for Personal and Domestic Use (2%), Furniture and Appliances (1.3%), Hypermarkets, Supermarkets, Food Products, Beverages and Tobacco (1%), and Pharmaceutical Articles (0.6%). Among the segments that recorded a decline were Books, Newspapers, Magazines and Stationery (6.7%) and Textiles, Clothing and Footwear (1.1%).

In the annual comparison, all other seven segments analyzed showed growth: Hypermarkets, Supermarkets, Food Products, Beverages and Tobacco (7.4%), Construction Materials (6.8%), Books, Newspapers, Magazines and Stationery (6.3%), Furniture and Appliances (5.9%), Other Articles for Personal and Domestic Use (5.1%), Pharmaceutical Articles (3.2%), and Textiles, Clothing and Footwear (2.6%).

The Stone Retail Economic Activity Index evaluates eight segments:

  1. Pharmaceutical, medical, orthopedic articles, perfumery and cosmetics;
  2. Hypermarkets, supermarkets, food products, beverages and tobacco;
  3. Books, newspapers, magazines and stationery;
  4. Furniture and appliances;
  5. Textiles, clothing and footwear;
  6. Construction materials;
  7. Fuel and Lubricants;
  8. Other Articles for Personal and Domestic Use.
