T&B Petroleum/Petrobras Agency
In May, Transpetro recorded a 60% reduction in thefts in oil pipelines that are operated by the company in São Paulo. Compared with the previous month, the number fell from 23 to nine criminal actions, in a change in the direction of the curve that since the beginning of the second half of 2019 has only grown. Still, last year, the month of May registered 12 occurrences, a number 30% higher than that recorded in the same period of that year.
São Paulo is the state that records the largest number of criminal actions in the pipelines operated by the company and, therefore, is the biggest target of the company's effort to curb clandestine derivations, which expose communities and the environment to risk. The result is the result of integration with the work of the civilian and military police in addition to the state prosecutor's office. During this period, members of two gangs who worked mainly in the municipalities of Vinhedo and Santa Rita do Passa Quatro, both in the interior of São Paulo, were also arrested.
Transpetro appreciates the support and engagement of the community through the whistleblowing channel, 168, and reinforces the importance of the collaboration of residents neighboring the pipelines in order to minimize the danger that everyone faces with these criminal acts. Anonymity is guaranteed, the call is free and the phone works 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All residents can get in touch if they identify any suspicious movements in the pipeline strip and in nearby terrain, such as people or heavy vehicles working near the pipeline areas or strong fuel smell. The company also offers whatsapp (21) 999920-168, by which the resident can contribute by sending images and videos.
Transpetro has as a priority the preservation of life and values the safety of people and the environment. In partnership with public agencies and the community, the company will continue to work tirelessly to mitigate the risks that this crime represents for society.
