The Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), the world’s largest conference in the deepwater oil and gas industry, recognized the innovations implemented by Petrobras in the Campos Basin, particularly in the Marlim field
Petrobras AgencyThe Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) awarded Petrobras its highest technical honor, the Distinguished Achievement Award, in the “Companies, Organizations, and Institutions” category. This award acknowledges the innovations implemented by the company for the revitalization of mature fields in deep waters. Petrobras President, Jean Paul Prates, received the award at a ceremony held this Sunday, May 5th, in Houston (USA).
“Through intensive use of innovation and technology, we managed to increase production in the Campos Basin by 230,000 barrels per day, which was already considered by many as an area of little relevance in our portfolio. The OTC award confirms that we see a future in the Campos Basin and is evidence that Petrobras is also a reference in mature field recovery activities”, declared Jean Paul Prates. “I receive this award with immense satisfaction and dedicate this achievement to our highly competent technical team”, added the president.
For the Marlim revitalization program in the Campos Basin, Petrobras put into production last year the FPSOs (Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading units) Anna Nery and Anita Garibaldi. These new units replaced nine production platforms operating in the field. With both units, Petrobras estimates adding at least 115,000 barrels per day in the coming years.
The two new platforms used in Marlim allowed for a 55% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
Campos Basin
The Campos Basin Revitalization Program, of which the awarded project is a part, is the largest program for the recovery of mature assets in deep waters in the world. The milestone of an additional 230,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd) was achieved in December 2023. In the coming years, Petrobras plans to install three new FPSOs in the Campos Basin, in the Jubarte, Barracuda & Caratinga, and Albacora fields.
OTC Awards History
This is the second time Petrobras has been awarded for innovations implemented in the Marlim field. In 1992, the OTC recognized the technological advancements achieved by the company, which enabled the global oil and gas industry to use production systems in deep waters.
In its pursuit of innovation, Petrobras has been awarded five times by the OTC and twice in the Brazilian edition of the conference.
Here are the awards granted by the OTC to Petrobras:
2024 – Technological innovations in mature fields in deep waters, in Marlim and the Campos Basin
2023 – Novel technology dedicated to well construction and intervention (OTC Brazil)
2020 – Technological innovations in the Búzios field
2019 - Technologies developed to enhance production in the Libra block (OTC Brazil)
2015 – Technologies for the Pre-Salt
2001 – Oil and gas production technologies in ultra-deep waters, in the Roncador field
1992 – Viability of oil and gas production in deep waters, with the Marlim field
