T&B Petroleum/Press Office ANPThe ANP has signed a technical cooperation agreement with Bonsucro, a global nonprofit organization aimed at promoting sustainable sugarcane. The extract of the agreement, which will last for 36 months, was published today (7/5) in the Official Gazette of the Union.
Bonsucro is responsible for international certifications of sugarcane products, such as sugar and ethanol. The objective of the agreement is to build an integrated procedure for sugarcane ethanol producers in Brazil to voluntarily obtain both Bonsucro and RenovaBio certifications. This integrated procedure will consist of different chapters describing specific criteria components of a certification scheme.
The measure also aims to exchange experiences and knowledge about certification, combine efforts to improve both processes, promote integrated analysis of data from both certifications, and integrate the supervision processes of certification bodies and training for certifiers and producers. The cooperation agreement does not aim to alter the provisions of RenovaBio's official documents.
After the conclusion of the agreement and the implementation of the results, producers seeking both certifications will be able to undergo an integrated certification procedure, which should optimize audit efforts and reduce costs.
Next steps
Following the signing of the agreement, ANP and Bonsucro will form a team of experts to develop the integrated certification procedure, including the preparation of communication and training materials, as well as pilot audits.
