April marks an important milestone for Acelen and Bunker One. The two companies collaborate in fueling vessels in the anchorage area of São Marcos Bay, Maranhão. In six months of partnership, over 100 ships have been fueled in the area, directly impacting the region's economy by generating taxes and fostering new businesses.

One highlight of the operation is supplying ships that would not have scheduled stops in São Marcos Bay, but now plan strategic stops exclusively for refueling, known as "bunker only calls". During these stops, ships also contract new services from local port agencies, further boosting the local economy. The fact that the entire process is executed in the anchorage area results in more efficient logistics, as there is no need for internal anchoring.

Cristiano da Costa, Commercial Vice President, Trading, and Shipping at Acelen, the energy company managing the largest bunker refinery in the country, explains that fuel supply continues to grow steadily. "In Brazil, we are already the largest manufacturer of marine fuel (bunker oil). An important product in our portfolio, it currently represents a significant part of our sales volume in the country. Our bunker complies with all international and national regulations, such as IMO 2020, which limited the sulfur content in marine fuels to 0.5% by mass," comments the executive.

Flavio Ribeiro, CEO of Bunker One in Brazil, sees promising prospects for expanding operations in São Marcos Bay. "It is an area that has all the necessary characteristics to be the base of the offshore market that will establish itself in the region. Due to its location, it is attracting more and more vessels from different parts of the world, some not even scheduled, but upon seeing the ease of access, refuel there. The trend is for demand in São Marcos Bay to grow even more and significantly in the coming years," says the executive.

São Marcos Bay is a relevant center for international trade, especially for exports of raw materials such as iron and soybeans, and for the distribution of petroleum products in the domestic market. The partnership between Acelen and Bunker One also leads to an increase in the number of new businesses for companies operating in the area, such as maritime agencies and service providers, creating more jobs and boosting the state's economy.
