The ANP presented yesterday (07/29) the consolidated version of the Environmental Study of Sedimentary Area (EAAS) of the maritime sedimentary basin of Sergipe-Alagoas / Jacuípe. This is an assessment aimed at strategic public policy planning, with an emphasis on socio-environmental issues, for the oil & natural gas exploration & production sector.

During the opening of an event to present the results of the Environmental Study of Sedimentary Area Assessment (EAAS) of the Sergipe-Alagoas and Jacuípe basins, the director of the ANP, Felipe Kury, pointed out that the study on screen had the collaboration of several institutions such as: MME, MMA, IBAMA and EPE. Kury pointed out that the objective is to improve the decision-making and governance process in the granting of exploratory blocks and environmental licensing and make the Agency's tenders more attractive to investors. The initiative expands knowledge in the areas investigated and enables a balance between economic development and environmental protection.

EAAS presents subsidies to be integrated into the exploratory blocks doctoral process and environmental licensing. With this, the intention is to further increase the transparency and legal certainty of the process of making areas available carried out by the ANP in the bidding rounds and in the Permanent Offer. The study will also replace the need to develop Joint Manifestations for the Sergipe-Alagoas and Jacuípe basins.

The Study went through public consultation for 90 days and was also debated in face-to-face meetings and open to participation in Salvador, Maceió, Aracaju and Recife in March, reinforcing the ANP's commitment to dialogue with society, ensuring full access, to wide dissemination of the study and community participation.

The EAAS was prepared by the consulting company Ecology Brasil Ltda, hired by the ANP, and evaluated by a Technical Monitoring Committee (CTA) composed of representatives from the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), Ministry of the Environment (MMA), ANP, Energy Research Company (EPE), Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) and Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio).

The next stages of the Environmental Assessment of the Sedimentary Area (AAAS) were also presented, according to Interministerial Ordinance MME-MMA nº 198/2012.
