The ANP publishes consolidated statistical data on the evolution of the oil, natural gas and biofuels sector in Brazil and the world in 2017 on its website (29/6). The graphs and tables, which will be published later in the Brazilian Statistical Yearbook of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels 2018, can be found on the Statistical Yearbook 2018.

The year of 2017 was marked by the resumption of rounds of bidding areas for exploration and production. The 14th Round was carried out in the concession model, with a subscription bonus of more than R $ 3.8 billion; the 2 nd and 3 rd Round of Sharing, which, together, raised R $ 6.2 billion, in addition to the 4th Round of Bids for Areas with Marginal Accumulations.

Domestic oil production grew for the fourth consecutive year, reaching 2.6 million barrels per day in 2017, an increase of 4.2% over the previous year. This increase was led by the supply of pre-salt oil, which reached an average of 1.3 million barrels per day in the year, about 50% of the national production. Natural gas increased by 5.9% and gas extracted from the pre-salt increased the share in the national total and corresponded to 45.3% of the total produced.

Due to the increase in domestic production in 2017, Brazil reduced its need to import petroleum by 16.4%, to an average of 149.2 thousand barrels / day, while exports reached the highest value in the historical series, 996.6 thousand barrels / day, an annual increase of 24.8%.

Domestic oil products production was 3.7% lower than in 2016 and reached 1.9 million barrels per day, around 76.2% of the installed refining capacity. As a result, the volume of imports of derivatives grew 26.1% to 615.7 thousand barrels / day. In addition, as a result of the increase in international prices, there was an increase in the expenditure with imports of 57.5%.

The amount generated from government participation reached R $ 30.5 billion in 2017, of which R $ 15.3 billion in royalties and R $ 15.2 billion in special participation, up from 29.4% in the previous year and 156 ,2%.

In 2017, sales of derivatives by distributors grew by 1.3%, after two consecutive years of decline. Particularly noteworthy were sales of C-gasoline and fuel oil, which grew by 2.6% and 1.6%, respectively.

In the biofuels sector, ethanol production remained practically stable and biodiesel production was 12.9% higher than the previous year, mainly due to the increase of the blend content in diesel oil to 8%.

The volume of obligations under the concession, sharing and assignment clauses for investments in research, development and innovation (P, D & I) was R $ 1.3 billion in 2017, an increase of 49.1% over last year.
