The Federation of Industries of Rio de Janeiro (Firjan CIRJ) held a meeting on Wednesday (Sept. 25) with key players in the natural gas market to celebrate its progress and highlight challenges, coinciding with ROG.e, Latin America's largest energy fair in Rio de Janeiro. Firjan's vice president and president-elect, Luiz Césio Caetano, emphasized that the gas market is at a crucial moment, requiring greater coordination and collaboration among all actors involved.

"The purpose of Firjan and CIRJ is to be at the service of companies and market players, supporting initiatives that bring innovation and competitiveness to the sector. In a time of so many transformations, it's essential to exchange ideas, share knowledge, and, above all, build bridges that help us face major challenges by proposing solutions, offering support, and promoting the dialogue needed to strengthen this business environment," said Luiz Césio Caetano.

Petrobras president, Magda Chambriard, was clear in affirming that "there will be gas," referring to the company's efforts to bring more offshore gas to Brazil's coast. She mentioned that Petrobras is considering modifications to some of its platforms under construction to enable gas exportation.

"We are working to bring more gas to the coast. When I joined Petrobras, I encountered some large platforms under construction that weren't designed to export gas to the coast due to economic considerations, making gas reinjection mandatory. However, we are working to reverse this situation. We're looking for more gas in both the post-salt and pre-salt layers, and significant effort is being made. But my main message is this: you can believe there will be more gas," she declared.

Senator Laércio Oliveira praised Firjan's efforts to promote gas production and exploration while avoiding excessive reinjection. "We need to encourage producers to bring gas to the coast, as well as consumers to use it to maintain a better market balance," said the senator, who also advocated for the use of gas in fertilizer production.

The event also celebrated the launch of the book "Mercado de gás Natural no Brasil" (Natural Gas Market in Brazil), organized by lawyer Daniela Santos and Symone Araújo, director of the National Petroleum Agency (ANP). The publication includes 36 articles covering topics such as supply, competition, and pricing in the natural gas market, along with future prospects. Firjan's Oil, Gas, Energy, and Naval department contributed three articles. The meeting also featured the presence of ANP Director General Rodolfo Saboia, Firjan CIRJ Vice President Raul Sanson, and other market leaders.
