T&B Petroleum/Press Office ANP
The ANP (Brazilian National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels) released today (October 1st) the Monthly Bulletin of Oil and Natural Gas Production for August 2024, which consolidates national production data. The total production (oil + natural gas) reached 4.345 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d).
Oil Production A total of 3.340 million barrels per day (bbl/d) of oil were extracted, representing a 3.4% increase compared to the previous month and a 3.5% decrease compared to August 2023.
Natural Gas Production Natural gas production in August amounted to 159.7 million cubic meters per day (m³/d), an increase of 5.6% compared to July 2024 and 8% compared to August 2023.
Pre-salt Production In the pre-salt layer, the total production (oil + natural gas) for August reached 3.463 million boe/d, accounting for 79.7% of Brazil's total production. This represents a 5.5% growth compared to both the previous month and August 2023. The production involved 2.694 million bbl/d of oil and 122.25 million m³/d of natural gas, extracted from 148 wells.
Natural Gas Utilization In August, natural gas utilization reached 97.8%. A total of 54.33 million m³/d was supplied to the market, with 3.61 million m³/d flared. This represents a 6.8% increase in flaring compared to the previous month and a 4.3% decrease compared to August 2023.
Production Sources Offshore fields accounted for 97.6% of oil and 83.8% of natural gas production in August. Fields operated by Petrobras, either independently or in consortium with other companies, contributed 89.21% of the total production. Production originated from 6,432 wells, with 493 offshore and 5,939 onshore.
Fields and Facilities In August, the Tupi field in the pre-salt Santos Basin was the top producer, registering 832,600 bbl/d of oil and 43.19 million m³/d of natural gas. The highest-producing facility was the FPSO Carioca (Mv-30), operating in the Sépia, Sépia Leste, and Sépia Eco fields, producing 160,720 bbl/d of oil. In terms of natural gas, the FPSO Guanabara, located in the shared Mero field, was the top producer with 10.19 million m³/d of gas.
About the Oil and Gas Production Bulletin
In addition to the traditional PDF publication, the data can be explored interactively using Business Intelligence (BI) technology. This tool allows users to select specific months, periods, fields, states, and basins for tailored reports.
Production Variations
Production fluctuations are common and can occur due to factors such as scheduled maintenance stoppages, new wells coming online, temporary well closures for cleaning or repairs, and the commissioning of new production units. These actions aim for stable, continuous operations and long-term production growth.
