The State has 394 projects under implementation or expansion, encouraged by the Government of Bahia, with contributions of around R$ 111 billion
T&B Petroleum/Press OfficeBahia has 17 thousand industries, which generate around 394 thousand jobs and contribute with 24.2% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The segment in the state presents significant numbers that should become even greater after the implementation or expansion of 401 projects encouraged by the State Government, through the Secretariat for Economic Development (SDE), which should invest around R$ 111 billion.
On May 25, Industry Day, SDE celebrates this potential and highlights the attraction of companies such as Unipar, which announced a chlorine plant in Camaçari, with an investment of R$ 120 million; BYD, which announced its intention to invest BRL 3 billion in the construction of an electric vehicle factory; Mubadala Capital, which should invest R$ 12 billion in a green diesel and green aviation kerosene factory in Acelen; and the first Brazilian plant for hydrogen and green ammonia (H₂V), built by Unigel, with an investment forecast of US$ 1.5 billion by 2027.
"With a diversified economy, the state stands out as a strategic industrial pole. From construction, industrial services, oil derivatives, chemicals and food, Bahia is home to a real cauldron of opportunities and development potential", explains SDE secretary, Angelo Almeida, highlighting that the state is treading a path towards energy transition. "With its abundance of natural resources such as sun and wind, Bahia has established itself as a leader in the production of renewable energy. Bahia's energy transition is driven by significant investments in wind farms and solar plants, which are transforming the local energy matrix. ".
The manager points out that this change strengthens environmental sustainability, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, but also boosts economic development, generating green jobs and attracting investment. "Bahia is positioning itself as an inspiring example of how the energy transition can stimulate sustainable growth and place the state at the forefront of energy solutions for the future", he added.
Bahia ended the first quarter of 2023 as the national leader in wind energy generation, responsible for 34.2% of accumulated generation, according to the Electric Energy Trading Chamber (CCEE). The State has 272 wind farms in operation, which were responsible for an investment of more than R$34 billion and generated around 74,000 jobs throughout the production chain. The State is also one of the leaders in the generation of photovoltaic solar energy, with 47 parks in operation, 25 plants under construction and another 347 with construction to begin.
This potential should grow even more. Recently, the Northeast Development Superintendence (Sudene) approved funding for the implementation of three wind farms in the municipalities of Xique-Xique and Gentio do Ouro, in the region of Irecê. The total planned investment is BRL 702.10 million, with the participation of BRL 415.32 million from the Northeast Development Fund (FDNE). The power to be installed in the parks is 116 MW (megawatts) and the forecast is that 850 direct and indirect jobs will be generated during the implementation and operation phase.
