The wind farm belongs to the Casa dos Ventos group and is one of eight located in the Rio do Vento Wind Complex, currently under construction. The financing for the special purpose company (SPE) Ventos de Santa Sofia Energias Renováveis SA will be R $ 208 million, with the perspective of generating more than 200 jobs during and after the conclusion of the project, considering only the wind farm financed . It is estimated that 1,500 jobs will be created during the implementation of the entire complex that spans three municipalities in the state, with a total installed capacity of 504 megawatts.

BNDES will finance the implementation works and the acquisition of national equipment. The forecast is that the Ventos de Santa Martina 14 wind farm will start commercial operation in a year from now, adding 63 megawatts to the total capacity of the complex.

The energy generated from the wind farm was mostly sold on the free market under a long-term contract with a national group in the automotive sector that could become a self-producer, becoming part of the SPE's shareholder structure. In addition, to price the part of the energy that is not yet contracted, the concept of "Support Price" was used, a methodology created by BNDES in 2019. Learn more about the methodology.

Other wind energy projects - In March, BNDES and Engie Brasil signed contracts worth R $ 2.7 billion for the implementation of a wind complex in Bahia. The Campo Largo Wind Farm - Phase 2, in the Bahian municipalities of Umburanas and Sento Sé, will generate enough energy to serve 850 thousand households.

About the proponent - Ventos de Santa Sofia Energias Renováveis belongs to the economic group Casa dos Ventos, one of the pioneers and major investors in the development of wind projects in Brazil. In addition to the history of implementing 1.2 GW in the last five years, the company was responsible for the development of approximately 30% of all wind farms in operation in the country. The company also has solar generation projects in the states of Piaui, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Pernambuco and Bahia.
