Project will avoid the emission of 2.8 million tons of greenhouse gases because it will allow the replacement of diesel thermal plants
T&B Petroleum/Press Office BNDESThe National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) contracted financing for the construction of four biomass thermoelectric plants and associated transmission systems in the municipalities of Cantá and Boa Vista, in Roraima, the only Brazilian state that is not connected to the National Interconnected System. (SIN). In total, the Bonfim, Cantá, Pau Rainha and Santa Luz plants will have a total installed capacity of 40 megawatts, equivalent to what is needed to serve 148,000 homes. During the work, 1,900 direct and indirect jobs will be generated and, after completion, 200.
The project will contribute to reducing the demand, in the State, for energy generation from diesel thermoelectric plants, which are more expensive and more polluting, avoiding the emission of around 2.8 million tons of greenhouse gases each year of operation. from the project.
BNDES support was granted to Oxe Participações S.A., controller of the four special purpose companies (SPEs), a renewable energy platform controlled by three infrastructure funds with national capital, managed by the groups XP Asset, Trius Capital/Siguler Guff and Lyon Capital . The R$ 80 million financing is within the scope of the BNDES Climate Fund – Renewable Energy Modalities.
The four thermoelectric plants are grouped into two areas (clusters), with shared utilities and connection systems, 90 km away from each other. In the Serra da Lua cluster, located in the municipality of Cantá, are the Bonfim and Cantá thermoelectric plants. In Jacitara, located in the capital Boa Vista, the Pau Rainha and Santa Luz plants are located. All thermoelectric plants will be fueled by biomass, through the burning of wood chips, waste from the wood industry. The expected consumption at full load will be 1,000 tons per day. It is worth mentioning that all the fuel used will come from reforested areas and the process of planting, harvesting and transporting the wood will have FSC certification (or similar), internationally adopted as a guarantee of good environmental and social practices.
BNDES Climate Fund
This is the BNDES program to support investments in local renewable energy generation and distribution (solar, wind, hydraulic, biomass), in technological development (such as energy generation or conversion projects, electric energy storage or use of green hydrogen, among others) and in the production chain of the renewable energy sector.
