Brazil and the world are going through a unique energy transition and one of the main motivators is climate change. The decarbonisation of our energy matrix undoubtedly depends on the consumption of fuels in the transport sector ". at the IV National Congress of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Engineering (IV CONEPETRO) and VI Petroleum Engineering Workshop (VI WEPETRO), which took place this Wednesday (5/26).

Under the title "MME's Vision Regarding Energy Projections in the Brazilian Oil, Gas and Biofuels Industry", the secretary spoke about the Brazilian energy power, highlighting the wind, solar, hydroelectric, bioenergy and biofuel production potential, in addition to of uranium reserves, a mineral that today is under total control of Brazil. "The Brazilian energy matrix has a share of renewables in the order of 44%, while the rest of the world has only 14%. This makes ours one of the cleanest matrices in the world", said José Mauro.

The secretary recalled that 20% of consumption in the transport sector is currently made from renewable fuels and guaranteed that Brazil has been moving towards expanding this consumption. According to him, the National Biofuels Policy (Renovabio), will boost the participation of renewables in the transport matrix and biofuels will be responsible for almost 30% of the consumption of the transport sector in 2030, "which is unique in the world".

Throughout the conference, José Mauro Coelho showed the strength of the oil, biofuels, natural gas and refining sectors. "The expectation is to reach about 5.3 billion barrels / day in 2030, making Brazil the fourth largest oil producer in the world," he said.

José Mauro guaranteed that the country "will have enough gas in the future" and that production will be tripled in 2030, with a forecast of 55 million cubic meters / day of natural gas.

The conference also covered biofuels such as biogas, biomethane and biokerosene, in addition to the refining divestments planned by Petrobras. The secretary presented figures for the Brazilian sugar-energy sector that showed that the country should produce, in 2030, 46 million liters of ethanol / day.

The secretary ended by highlighting the relevance of the main programs in progress at the MME, such as Renovabio, Combustível do Futuro, Abastece Brasil, BidSim, Revitalization and Incentive Program for the Production of Maritime Fields (Promar) and Revitalization Program for Oil Exploration and Production Activity and Natural Gas in Land Areas (Reate).

"Renovabio is a source of pride for all of us Brazilians. It is not just a government program, but of the Brazilian State", he stressed. "These are actions of fundamental importance for Brazil, as they all generate thousands of jobs, bring income to families, regional and local development and promote well-being and quality of life for all Brazilians", he concluded.
