Brazil may increasingly use Macau as a platform to operate in China

Macau’s Economy and Finance Secretary Leong Vai Tac said at a meeting in Brasilia that measures to reduce limits on access to to the Fund for Development Cooperation between China and the Portuguese-Speaking Countries to make it easier for more countries to benefit from its use.

 

The secretary was speaking on Monday during a meeting with the Ministry of Planning, Development and Management and the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services, where he highlighted the role of Macau as a platform to strengthen the exploration of the Chinese and Brazilian markets.

 

Leong Vai Tac also said that with the forthcoming announcement of the details of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Great Bay (GBA) conditions will be created for companies to enter this large market of nine cities and two special administrative regions with an area of 56,000 kilometres, a population of 67 million people and a GDP of more than US$1.3 trillion.

 

The secretary also said that the Macau government will maintain a close relationship with Brazilian entities in order to provide information to public services and companies about China’s market and investment opportunities and recalled that China when it launched the “Belt and Road” encouraged the Portuguese-speaking countries, including Brazil, to participate in the initiative.

 

Gleisson Rubin, Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Planning, Development and Management, highlighted the strong economic and trade links between Brazil and China in recent years and said that Macau as a platform contributes to strengthening the relationship between the two countries and plays a role in facilitating the entry of small and medium-sized Brazilian companies into China’s markets.

 

The role of Macau in the development of economic and trade relations between Brazil and China and the work carried out by the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries will allow for greater tripartite cooperation, said in turn the Deputy Minister of Commerce and Services of the Ministry of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services of Brazil, Douglas Finardi Ferreira at the meeting held in the Brazilian capital.
