In a meeting with President Michel Temer, president of Shell, Ben Van Beurden, he reiterated the interest of the multinational to maintain and expand investments in Brazil, especially partnerships with Petrobras. He said there is a "favorable investment climate in Brazil" due to factors such as security and stability of the regulatory framework rules and laws.
At the meeting held yesterday afternoon (27) in Brasilia, Beurden reaffirmed that Brazil is among the leading Shell's investment focus, and Brazil, in addition to receiving 15% of which is invested by the multinational, is responsible for a percentage ranging between 10% and 15% of what is produced by it.
"We have plans for a future together. We came here to talk about the confidence we have in the country and on some points that can be improved, "said Beurden after attending meetings at the Ministry of Mines and Energy and with the president of Petrobras, Pedro Parente, in addition to meeting with Temer. "I am very confident of what we can do together."
While refusing to comment on the Brazilian political scene, Beurden said "the important thing, on the latest political events, is to create in Brazil a favorable investment climate, with security and stability of rules in the regulatory framework and laws."
Other factors cited by him about attractions of Brazil for investments are geology, the talent of the people and the ease of doing business. "This combination makes Brazil one of the most attractive places for Shell, which has a billion-dollar investment program," he added.
"The expectation is to increase them and make the company one of the largest direct investors in Brazil in the next decade," he added.
Regarding partnerships with Petrobras, the president of Shell says that, as shown by the plans desired investment by the Brazilian state company, the priority remains the pre-salt, which has joint investment with Shell.
"Petrobras has made appropriate choices in their investment programs. I want this to be one of the most strategic partnerships of Shell in the world. I have confidence in the partnership between the companies. "
About the conversation with Temer, Beurden said the main message that had the Brazilian president was to continue giving importance to economic stimulus and the continuity of attraction for investments in Brazil, and that the agendas of the Presidency and industries "are converging in this time".
