China is willing to encourage its companies to take part in the privatization plans and investment partnerships that may be brought forward by the Brazilian government, China’s Ambassador to Brazil Yang Wanming said Tuesday (Jan. 22).

 

“For our cooperation, I believe that our relations with the new Brazilian government—Bolsonaro’s administration—will benefit the development of the two peoples,” the Chinese ambassador stated.

 

The ambassador paid a visit to Brazilian Minister Science, Technology, Innovation, and Communication Marcos Pontes. “We regard cooperation with Brazil as very important. We want to make cooperation as soon as possible in every field. In the scientific and technological areas, as well as in the defense area, we have seen a fluid and healthy development, serving the interests shared by the two countries,” he said.

 

Wanming said that, during the assembly, Pontes suggested that the two countries work together for the civil and military use of science and technology. The ambassador added that Brazil has not laid its cooperation projects out on the table.

 

The Chinese ambassador, who met with Economy Minister Paulo Guedes last week, said that China is interested in “strengthening cooperation in the economy, trade, and investment in infrastructure, and even bolster financial cooperation.”

 

There is ample room for cooperation, Wanming argued, like the digital field, new energies, biotechnology, space, climate change, and new materials.

 

“China and Brazil are major world economies. We have the responsibility of improving world economy—not just through the joint development of both countries, but also through the contribution to world prosperity,” Wanming declared.
