The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) published in the Federal Official Gazette (DOU) yesterday, 21, Ordinance MME 419/19, signed by the Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, which regulates the Decarbonization Credit - CBIO. This credit is part of the National Biofuels Policy - Renovabio, which aims at the sustainable production of biofuels in the country, doubly benefiting the consumer with the guarantee of supply and the offer of cheaper fuels. CBIO also benefits biofuel producers who are looking for more efficient forms of production and consequently pollute the environment less.

What is CBIO?

CBIO - Decarbonization Credit is an environmental asset issued by the certified biofuel producer or importer through banks or financial institutions. One unit of CBIO corresponds to the avoided emission of one ton of carbon into the environment.

After their issuance, CBIOs may be traded in a trading environment in which the purchase and sale of credits between producers, fuel distributors and other investors is foreseen.

This regulation is the last MME action before RenovaBio's full operation in January 2020. With this, Brazil will be able to offer in the financial market the environmental asset that supports the largest decarbonization program on the planet: RenovaBio. The CBIO market represents the low carbon economy solution that the world's largest companies are looking for.
