EGP gets approval for 90MW in Brazil

They are located in Brumados in the state of Bahia, in north-eastern Brazil.

A three projects set to start supplying energy in 2017 as part of a 20-year PPA. The projects will be known as the 90MW Cristalândia wind cluster (Cristalândia I, II and II - 30MW each).

Speaking about the projects, EGP CEO Francesco Venturini said: "Brazil is a strategic country for us, the main reason why we have built a diversified presence of wind, hydro and solar power. Here we are getting the most out of our innovative approach to combine solar facilities with wind farms or hydropower plants in the same construction site."

EGP will be investing a approximately $190 million in Cristalândia.

It will be built in Bahia in north-eastern Brazil, where the company already manages 260MW that are either operating or under construction. Public tenders awarded in 2014 resulted in a 254MW solar photovoltaic project and a further 200MW in wind.

The wind farm expected to be delivered by 2017, will generate over 350 GWh per year while avoiding the annual emission of over 100,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.

On July 24 an A-3 auction is scheduled to start. New projects will deliver energy in 1 January, 2018. Once again the wind is the highlight.

The Brazilian Energy Research Company (EPE) received a request to register 521 projects (475 in wind, comprising 11,476MW).

The State of Rio Grande do Norte has the largest number of wind projects (132), with expected installed capacity of 3.1GW. Second comes Bahia, with 105 totaling 2,471MW. Ceará may also receive 91 wind projects with a total capacity of 2,246MW.

The other states with projects participating in the auction are: Piauí, 30 projects (896MW); Maranhão, 11 projects (310MW); Paraíba, 8 projects (238MW) and Pernambuco, 5 projects (126MW), all in the Northeast; and Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil, with 93 projects (2,089MW).
