Energy consumption rises 4.6% in March

Consumption surpassed 40,250 GWh.

The energy consumption established in March, in Brazil, surpassed 40,250 GWh, a 4.6% increase over the same month last year. Energy consumption grew at all regions of the country, with the highest rates recorded in the North (+10%) and South (+6.7%).
Based on revenue of distribution companies and measurements of the transmission companies, electricity consumption calculated on that month was influenced by high temperatures of the summer, and the begining of Carnival, also in March.
Both combined effects explain the expansion of residential and commercial consumption rates
greater than 8%, compared to March 2013 (residential, 8,8% and commercial 8.3%). Moreover,  because of the Carnival in March, this month had a lowest number of days and two and a half days less than March last year. For sure, it affected the statistics of energy consumption industries.
Still, the drop in industrial consumption was only 0.3 % . Besides the timing factor , followed influencing the calculation of consumption of industries situation that affects the metallurgy
Brazil's primary aluminum, affected by the international market situation and the domestic price of energy.
