The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) approved financing for the implementation of six wind farms belonging to the Jerusalem Wind Complex, in addition to associated transmission systems, in the municipalities of Lajes, Pedro Avelino and Pedra Preta, in Rio Grande do Norte. EDP Renováveis S.A's initiative will generate clean and renewable energy equivalent to supplying 270 thousand homes. The construction will employ about 1,150 people.

The project highlights the acquisition of 43 national wind turbines, which are equipment for converting wind energy into electricity. The other investments supported by the BNDES will involve civil works, the construction of 27 km of transmission lines and an energy substation. The Jerusalem Complex will have an installed capacity of 180.6 MW, to be added to the national interconnected system.

BNDES investments in generation are in line with the efforts of the National Plan on Climate Change (PNMC) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Plan also seeks to "maintain a high share of renewable energy in the electricity matrix, preserving the prominent position that Brazil has always occupied in the international scenario". The Bank's effort is also in line with the Federal Government's National Energy Plan 2030, with strategies for expanding economic and sustainable energy over the next ten years.

Financing of up to R $ 568 million will be granted to the six Special Purpose Entities (SPE): Centrais Eólicas Jerusalem S.A from I to VI. Each of them will be responsible for a specific park. The SPEs are controlled by Jerusalem Holding S.A, which, in turn, is managed by EDP Renováveis Brasil S.A.

About the bidder - EDP Renováveis SA is a world leader in the renewable energy sector, the fourth largest producer of wind energy in the world and is currently present in 14 international markets (Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, France, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Poland , Portugal, Romania, Spain, United Kingdom and the United States).
