With solutions developed through applied research and aimed at addressing the challenges of the oil and gas market, Firjan SENAI SESI is participating in ROG.e with a range of proposals and research results achieved in recent years. The technologies developed by the federation will be presented in Pavilion 4 throughout the four-day event, from September 21 to 24.

Among the highlights presented by the Federation of Industries of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Firjan) is chemical analysis using hyperspectral imaging. The solution makes it possible to analyze and quantify the presence of metallic salts in produced water, expanding the possibilities for handling this type of matrix in industrial processes.

“This is a chemical analysis method that uses a sensor capable of evaluating the image spectrum to identify and quantify elements in a real sample. The analysis makes it possible to identify mineral salts without the use of reagents and contributes to better decision-making regarding water treatment or disposal,” explains Giovanni Pedroso, Research, Development, and Innovation Coordinator at Firjan SENAI. He notes that the project has been under development for approximately two years in partnership with Petrobras and is at an advanced stage of completion.

In addition to the hyperspectral imaging camera, Firjan SENAI SESI is also bringing an absorbent biomaterial model to ROG.e. The result of improvements to research initiated four years ago, the proposal will present new products capable of absorbing oil in water. They may be used in industrial operations, gas stations, platform operations, lubricant industries, and any activity involving large quantities of fuel.

Another highlight presented by Firjan is the development of methodologies for TOG analysis—total oil and grease content. The federation is a Brazilian reference in this type of analysis and, in partnership with Petrobras, is improving the methodology under the supervision of Inmetro so that it can soon be adopted by different companies operating in the oil and gas market.

The Strategic Dimension of the Energy Market

The proposal is to present Firjan SENAI SESI’s ecosystem of solutions, demonstrating how different areas of expertise can work together to meet the needs of this industry.

“ROG.e highlights the strategic importance of the energy market for the development of Rio de Janeiro and Brazil. The state accounts for approximately 65% of investments in energy projects and is responsible for around 88% of national oil production, giving Rio de Janeiro a distinctive position in this agenda,” points out Alexandre Reis (picture), Executive Operations Director of the Firjan System and Executive Director of SESI SENAI.

The challenge now is to continue adding value to this industry through innovation, professional training, and opportunities throughout the entire goods and services supply chain. According to Reis, this is where Firjan contributes: connecting companies with solutions in applied technology, professional education, and health and safety, while also linking small suppliers with major companies in the market.

“Strengthening this supply chain means multiplying the power of energy throughout Rio de Janeiro’s economy and helping to increase Brazil’s competitiveness,” says Alexandre Reis.

Technology is part of Firjan SENAI’s efforts to transform scientific knowledge into services that meet industrial demands. In partnership with oil and gas operators, the federation develops projects across different areas of expertise.

“Firjan SENAI’s applied research, combined with its highly qualified technical staff, delivers major projects for the development of new energy sources in Brazil, in partnership with the country’s leading oil operators. Our areas of activity include CO₂ capture for the production of raw materials, the development of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), low-carbon hydrogen production, the development and optimization of chemical analyses using imaging, and the conversion of biomass into non-fossil fuels,” highlights Antonio Fidalgo, Manager of Applied Research in Chemistry, Biology, and Health at Firjan SENAI.

International Visibility

The federation’s solutions demonstrate the institution’s ability to operate from the identification of industrial needs through to the practical application of solutions. The program at the Firjan SENAI SESI booth includes activities focused on technology, education, health, safety, and social responsibility.

In the area of Physical and Operational Safety, a 3D-glasses simulator for working-at-height training under NR-35 regulations provides an immersive experience of situations found in industrial environments. In addition, an interactive television will demonstrate how industry must act to mitigate the psychosocial risks addressed by NR-1.

New training programs developed for this market will also be presented, along with a strategic initiative to connect professionals with job opportunities through the Industry Career Office, which works to improve the employability of Firjan SENAI SESI students and graduates.

As this is a global market and an international event, Firjan SENAI SESI will launch content aimed at international audiences at its booth. The English-language publication Rio de Janeiro Core Markets Overview – Executive Guide for Oil, Gas, Energy, Maritime, Petrochemical and Fertilizers provides an overview of each of Rio de Janeiro’s target markets, including key data and the main topics under discussion. The document is intended to support efforts to attract international companies to the state of Rio de Janeiro.

Connecting with Suppliers

In addition to its booth in Pavilion 4, Firjan SENAI, in partnership with Sebrae Rio, will be present in Pavilion 5 in a space dedicated to the Supplier Opportunities Network Program, known as RdO Fornecedores.

The initiative seeks to connect large companies with purchasing needs to potential suppliers across the production chain. It contributes to generating contracts for Rio de Janeiro’s business community and strengthening the state’s industrial presence in the oil, gas, energy, and maritime markets.

Firjan SENAI SESI will also launch the second edition of the RdO Fornecedores Handbook, a special edition aimed at micro and small businesses, also developed in partnership with Sebrae Rio. The document serves as a guide for companies seeking to position themselves as market suppliers, offering tips and information to support their development journey. It also provides a work agenda for planning the coming year, 2027.

Throughout ROG.e, Firjan SENAI SESI will also participate in the event’s conference, delivering technical presentations and moderating panels, thereby broadening discussions on the challenges facing the industry.
