The industrial sector in Rio de Janeiro was responsible for the creation of 4,508 jobs in September, following the trajectory of job recovery in July (+1,311) and August (+4,346), which has already added more than 10,000 jobs. With the new high, the Metal Products segment, recovered all vacancies lost between March and June, months most affected by the pandemic of Covid-19, and registers net gain of vacancies in the year. Another highlight is the Rubber and Plastic Material Products, with a balance of 66.7% of vacancies recovered between July and September. In all, the industry in Rio has already recovered 28.3% of the vacancies lost between March and June. The data are contained in Firjan's Regional Portraits platform, which brings sectorial and regional cuts to the labor market in Rio de Janeiro every month.

Unlike previous months, where Civil Construction was the main responsible for boosting the industrial sector, in September the Manufacturing Industry was the one that hired the most, with 2,565 new jobs, followed by Civil Construction (+1,849), Industrial Utility Services Public - SIUP (+75) and Extractive Industry (+19).

With the sharp evolution in the volume of jobs generated, all regions of Rio de Janeiro registered a positive balance in September, but with different levels of recovery. While the Capital presents a recovery indicator close to that observed in the State as a whole (25.6% of industrial jobs already recovered), in the Center South region the industrial sector has already recovered 82.3% of the vacancies lost. In Baixada Fluminense, 72.7% of vacancies in Industry and Civil Construction closed during the pandemic have already been reopened - especially in the Nova Iguaçu region, where the indicator reaches 97.8% recovery. In the East Fluminense this percentage reached 53.0%, in the Northwest, 44.8% and in the North Center, 29.1%.

State of Rio has second consecutive positive balance

In total, including all economic sectors, the state of Rio opened in September 8,901 vacancies, the second consecutive positive result, also showing acceleration in relation to the result of August (+5,297). It should be noted that in September 71 of the 92 municipalities in Rio de Janeiro had a positive balance of hiring.

Commerce opened 4,386 vacancies and recovered and has already recovered 15.3% of the total vacancies lost by the pandemic. The Services sector, with a balance of 163 jobs, presented its first positive result since February, but remains the segment that lost the most jobs in the state in 2020.
