According to a meeting of the Electric Sector Monitoring Committee (CMSE), held this Thursday (24/02), the energy supply conditions to the National Interconnected System (SIN) had a significant improvement due to the rains in the basins of the Southeast region. /Midwest. This result is linked to the policies and actions taken by the entities of the Brazilian electricity sector to recover the main reservoirs of the SIN.

According to the National Electric System Operator (ONS), the equivalent storage of the SIN reached 60.9%. As a result, thermoelectric dispatches and energy imports to the Southeast/Midwest, Northeast and North subsystems were suspended. This means lower costs for the Brazilian consumer.

The southern region still has reservoirs with approximately 30% of storage, which corresponds to the minimum operating volume for this subsystem, with emphasis on the basins of the Iguaçu and Uruguay rivers. Thus, to ensure energy security, energy will be exchanged from the other subsystems to the South. In addition, thermoelectric power plants and the import of electricity from neighboring countries will be carried out, at a maximum cost of R$ 375.66 /MWh.

“The work of the CMSE has guaranteed reliability in the supply of electricity in the country through the articulated and proactive action of the institutions that make up the committee. The electrical energy service conditions will continue to be evaluated, since the current scenario is still one of gradual recovery of the reservoirs. We will remain attentive to opportunities to reduce the total cost of operating the system according to the evolution of the observed conditions”, says the Electric Energy Secretary of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Christiano Vieira.
