The Minas Gerais Development Bank (BDMG), with the support of the Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association (ABSOLAR), provides around R$405 million to support the growth of solar energy in Minas Gerais.

The resources were announced during the ABSOLAR Workshop, held in the auditorium of the Federation of Industries of the State of Minas Gerais (FIEMG) building, in the Minas Gerais capital of Belo Horizonte, on May 3rd. The credit aims to make new investments possible for the Minas Gerais territory, generate more jobs and income for the population and stimulate the development of new business opportunities for entrepreneurs, in addition to expanding access to solar energy to residential consumers, productive sectors, agribusiness and the public sector. of State.

According to the president of BDMG, Marcelo Bonfim, the resources will guarantee a greater insertion of the solar source in the region and ensure the population's electricity supply. “This year, the bank has already disbursed around R$ 80 million for energy efficiency projects and clean energy generation, including photovoltaic solar energy. We will continue to identify opportunities to diversify the state electricity matrix, stimulating regional development in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals”, he comments.

The executive president of ABSOLAR, Rodrigo Sauaia, highlights that, since 2012, own generation of solar energy has already brought to Minas Gerais more than R$ 8.8 billion in new investments, generating more than 50.6 thousand jobs and providing the collection of more than R$ 1.8 billion to the public coffers. “The territory of Minas Gerais, leader in small and medium-sized solar energy, accounts for 16.8% of all installed solar energy in the modality, with about 1.7 gigawatts (GW) in operation in homes, businesses, industries. , rural properties and public buildings”.

“The state has 148,717 operational connections, spread across 850 cities, or 99.6% of the 853 municipalities in the region. Currently, there are 198,854 electricity consumers who already have a reduction in their electricity bill, greater autonomy and electrical reliability”, he adds.

For Bruno Catta Preta, state coordinator of ABSOLAR in Minas Gerais, the advancement of solar energy in Brazil, via large plants and through its own generation in homes, small businesses, rural properties and public buildings, is fundamental for social, economic and environmental development. of Brazil and helps to diversify the country's electricity supply, reducing pressure on water resources and the risk of a red flag on the population's electricity bill.

“The state of Minas Gerais is currently an important center for the development of solar energy. Photovoltaic technology represents an enormous potential for generating employment and income, attracting private investment, supporting sustainability and combating climate change”, he comments.
