Mecan, the largest manufacturer-rental scaffolding, shoring and lifts the work of Brazil, has just completed its participation in the maintenance of the main flare (security system of petrochemical gases which are burned from the production) of Braskem in Camaçari in Bahia, Brazil. By Odebrecht Engenharia Industrial, Mecan provided 320 m² of QuikDeck equipment - a world innovation in access platforms segment - and 65-meter-high of ladder Mecanflex.
According to the National Division Manager of QuikDeck, the engineer Genésio Novaes, the idea of Mecan in using these two devices in the assembly was innovative because for the first time in the world the QuikDeck was present in this type of structure. "In a temporary stop of a petrochemical plant, the flare is the last to stop and the first to be released before the conclusion. Furthermore, it needs to be cold for four days with injection of cold air. The work was challenging", he says.
Genésio Novaes emphasizes that the maintaining the flare was made with a tubular scaffolding or a climber worker, having low productivity. This work demanded tons of equipment and a team of about 50 people. To assemble the QuikDeck was used only ten persons and five truckloads to transport equipment.
"The challenge to assemble the structure in three days safely was achieved successfully. The QuikDeck reduced significantly the time of the assembly access to recovery sites. In addition, was responsible for the reduction of the workforce involved in the process. The Mecanflex ladder was used to give access to QuikDeck, optimizing the process for allowing to be mounted on module 6 feet and hoisted by crane to the working position, reaching the final height of 65 meters", he says.
All was planned for two months by the engineering team of Mecan, Odebrecht and Braskem, detailing the procedures of assembly and safety, focusing on feasibility and process optimization.
Jairo Machado Soares, Production Engineer of Odebrecht Engenharia Industrial, confirms the necessity for a good planned process in this high-risk work. "Maintaining a flare is vital to the continued operation of the plant. As this is a work of high complexity, it was decided to use a safe, economical and practical equipment in its assembly. With QuikDeck, we had a result with fantastic benefits. Already envision the use of equipment in future parades," he says.

QuickDeck
The QuikDeck is a work platform suspended of last generation, which can be easily configured to create a working area of high load capacity, with various geometric shapes and sizes, from a few simple and lightweight components. The QuikDeck is initially assembled from a single module and can be extended longer in the work position. This system helps maintenance, assembly and construction processes where challenges are found in height, difficult access or even instability and environmental restrictions, such as bridges, viaducts, oil rigs and industrial units, among others.
Produced from U.S. technology, the equipment is an innovation in the suspended platforms and scaffolding market. Mecan is the only company authorized to manufacture and market the QuikDeck in Latin America.

Multidirectional Scaffolding

The Mecanflex have a system consisting of a clamp with a quick key that fits into a coupling piece called stirrup (rotation up to 180 °), preventing accidental disengagement. This unique coupling, and crash the system safely provides an automatic assembly. Recommended for diverse applications in the industrial, mining, petrochemical, steel, construction and various events. The Multidirectional Scaffolding Mecanflex can be mounted in many forms, levels and directions.
