On the next Monday (5), Itaipu  will complete 30 years of power generation. The energy facility is very important for the economies of Paraguay and Brazil. Today, Itaipu provides 17 % of electricity consumption in the Brazilian market and 75 % of Paraguay. Recently, in 2012 and 2013, new world records - last year , Itaipu made new world records generating 98.6 million MWh.

"From the point of view of efficiency in generation of clean and renewable energy, Itaipu is a success story without parallel in the world, a source of pride for Brazilians and Paraguayans. We have good reason, therefore, in 2014 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of establishment of Itaipu (May 17) and 30 years since the beginning of operation of the plant, ", says the Brazilian general director of Itaipu, Jorge Samek.

Since the beginning of the startup of the first unit until today, the Itaipu power plant generated a total of 2.16 billion MWh. This would be enough to supply the consumption of Brazil for four years and eight months , and Latin America for two years, five months and 11 days. Paraguay was attended by 176 years and 9 months. Have the State of São Paulo would be stocked for 15 years, 10 months and 21 days.

The installed capacity of Itaipu is 14 megawatts (MW). The plant has 20 generating units, each with a nominal capacity of 700 MW. The 19th unit was installed in 2006 and the last in 2007 guaranteed energy from Itaipu is 75 million MWh, but the plant produces annually more than 90 million MWh .
