Total oil and natural gas production in Brazil in May reached 3.473 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d), surpassing the previous record recorded in December 2016, when 3,433 MMboe / d were produced.

Oil production reached 2,731 million barrels per day (bbl/d), surpassing the previous mark, also registered in December 2016, when 2,730 MMbbl/d were produced. There was an increase of 4.9% in comparison with the previous month and of 4.7% in comparison with the same month in 2018.

Natural gas production was 118 million cubic meters per day (m³/d), surpassing the previous record of 117 MMm³/d recorded in October 2018. In relation to the previous month, growth was 4.4% and of 5.4% in relation to May 2018.

Production data for May are available on the Monthly Bulletin of Petroleum and Natural Gas Production page at http://www.anp.gov.br/publicacoes/boletins-anp/2395-bulletin-mensal-da-producao- of-oil-and-natural gas.

Pre-salt

The pre-salt production also surpassed the previous record both in volume and percentage of participation in the national total. In May, production from 97 wells was 2.106 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d), with 1.674 million barrels per day (bbl/d) of oil and 68.7 million cubic meters ( m³/d) of natural gas.

The pre-salt production corresponded to 60.7% of the total produced in Brazil and was 6.4% higher than that of the previous month and 14.5% higher compared to the same month of 2018.

Use of natural gas

The natural gas utilization in May was 95.8% of the total produced. 58.3 million cubic meters per day (m³/day) were made available to the market. Gas flaring amounted to 4.9 million cubic meters per day (m³/ d), a decrease of 18.8% compared to the previous month and an increase of 18.9% compared to May 2018.

Producer Fields

The Lula field, in the Santos Basin, produced the most oil and gas, with an average of 910 thousand barrels of oil per day (bbl/d) and 39.1 million cubic meters of natural gas per day (m³/day).

Origin of production

Maritime fields produced 96.3% of oil and 83.8% of natural gas. The fields operated by Petrobras produced 94.4% of the oil and natural gas. The national production occurred in 7,107 wells, being 642 seafarers and 6,465 terrestrial.

Highlights

Estreito, in the Potiguar Basin, had the largest number of producing wells: 1,117.

Marlim Sul, in the Campos Basin, was the maritime field with the largest number of producing wells: 77.

From the FPSO Cidade de Maricá Platform, producing in the Lula Field by means of seven interconnected wells, 149,900 barrels per day (bbl/d) were extracted and was the facility with the largest oil production.

The Arara Azul plant, in the Arara Azul, Araracanga, Carapanaúba, Cupiúba, Urucu and Sudoeste Urucu fields, produced 8.7 million cubic meters per day (m³ / d) through 38 interconnected wells. the installation with greater production of natural gas.

Fields of Marginal Accumulations:

These fields produced 67 barrels of oil per day (bbl/d) and 11,000 cubic meters of natural gas per day (m³/d). Campo de Iraí, operated by Petroborn, was the largest producer with 66.2 barrels of oil equivalent per day boe/d.

Other information

In May 2019, 296 concession areas, two onerous assignment areas and five sharing areas, operated by 32 companies, were responsible for domestic production. Of these, 71 are maritime and 232 are terrestrial. Of the total of the producing areas, 10 are related to contracts of areas containing Marginal Accumulations.

The average API grade was 27.5, with 37.4% of the production being considered light oil (> = 31 ° API), 51.8% medium oil (> = 22 API and <31 API) and 10.8% heavy oil (<22 API).

The mature terrestrial basins (fields / long-term tests of the Espírito Santo, Potiguar, Recôncavo, Sergipe and Alagoas basins) produced 105,400 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe / d), 82,900 barrels per day (bbl / d) of oil and 3.6 million cubic meters per day (m³ / d) of natural gas. Of this total, 98.9 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe / d) were produced by Petrobras and 6.6 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe / d), for concessions not operated by Petrobras, of which: 371 boe / d in Alagoas, 3,240 boe / d in Bahia, 26 boe / d in Espírito Santo, 2,713 boe / d in Rio Grande do Norte and 210 boe / d in Sergipe.
