Consolidated data for the month of January indicate that the average daily consumption of natural gas (NG) in Amazonas reached 4.6 million m³/d. Demand surpassed that of January 2022, when 4.2 million m³/d were sold, representing an increase of 9%. The information is from Cigás.

The residential segment is the best performer in terms of increased demand over the same period. In January 2023, the daily average volume sold reached 2,000 m³/d, while in the same month of 2022, consumption was just over 1,200 m 3/d, representing an increase of more than 66%.

This performance is due to the jump in the number of users in this segment, which already registers more than 12 thousand contracted consumer units, including large residential centers, as is the case of the Verona Premium condominium, in the north of Manaus, with more than 4 thousand residents .

Another highlight was the commercial segment. Establishments in various sectors are increasingly benefiting from fuel, with an impact on consumption data. The demand for NG from enterprises such as supermarkets, restaurants, laundries and others in the service sector were responsible for increasing by more than 20% the average volume of natural gas sold in January this year in the segment. There were 4,700 cubic meters (average per day) compared to 3,900 in the first month of last year.

In the case of industry, demand was 170.6 thousand m³/d, growth of 12.5% compared to January 2022, whose volume sold corresponded to 151.6 thousand cubic meters per day (on average). Today there are more than 60 companies in the Industrial Pole of Manaus (PIM) that use the natural gas distributed by Companhia de Gás do Amazonas.

Vehicular natural gas

Vehicular natural gas (CNG) continues to be priced competitively compared to liquid fuels. The five gas stations, which currently operate in Manaus, with CNG sold R$ 21.9 thousand m³/d of fuel. This demand represented a variation of 3% in the volume sold in relation to January of the previous year.

It should be noted that another three new gas stations should start operating with CNG later this year, expanding the vehicular natural gas supply network in the capital of Amazonas, in order to offer greater convenience to drivers.

Thermoelectric

Thermoelectric is the segment that consumes the most NG supplied by the concessionaire. The fuel is used in thermoelectric plants that generate electricity to supply the population of Manaus and the municipalities of Anamã, Anori, Caapiranga, Coari and Codajás. In January, this segment consumed, on average, 3.9 million cubic meters per day.
