The second day of Sergipe Oil & Gas 2025 (SOG25), held on Thursday, the 24th, was marked by strategic discussions on the natural gas market. Supported by the Government of Sergipe through the State Secretariat for Economic Development and Science and Technology (Sedetec) and Sergipe Gás (Sergas), the event runs through Friday, the 25th, at the AM Malls Convention Center in Aracaju, gathering public officials, technicians, specialists, and representatives from the industry’s production chain.

Sedetec Secretary Valmor Barbosa moderated the panel “Natural Gas Market”, in which he presented the current landscape of the sector in Sergipe and highlighted future prospects and ongoing initiatives. One of the central topics of his presentation was the consolidation of the Sergipe Gas Hub. “The interconnection pipeline between Eneva’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal and TAG’s transport network has a capacity of 14 million cubic meters (m³) per day, linking Sergipe to the national system. Another pipeline is planned for the state, tied to the Sergipe Deep Waters (Seap) project,” Valmor noted.

The Sergipe Hub is located in Barra dos Coqueiros, a municipality in the Aracaju Metropolitan Region, and includes the Porto de Sergipe I power plant, with a generation capacity of 1.6 GW. The infrastructure also features a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU), with a regasification capacity of 21 million m³ per day.

Valmor also emphasized the importance of a strong regulatory environment for the sector’s development in the state. “Sergipe reached the podium in the Free Natural Gas Market Ranking (Relivre), showing the Government’s and Governor Fábio Mitidieri’s commitment to fostering a favorable business environment for our state,” he added.

Among the topics addressed during the panel, Sergas CEO Alan Lemos discussed plans to expand gas distribution into the state’s interior, highlighting ongoing and upcoming developments. “Sergas is fully committed to overcoming obstacles and advancing expansion plans to seize the major opportunity the state will have in terms of gas supply over the coming years,” he emphasized.

Also participating in the panel were representatives from companies and institutions directly involved in Sergipe’s major infrastructure projects. Valéria Santana, an expert in natural gas and LNG commercialization at Eneva, highlighted the strategic importance of LNG terminals. “In a scenario of supply and demand, the most competitive option for adding flexibility, reliability, safety, and liquidity to an increasingly inflexible market is LNG terminals,” she summarized.

Ovídio Quintana, director at TAG, commented on the promising outlook for the sector in the state. “Sergipe is a pioneer, acting dynamically. The connection to the national transport network is a milestone in regional and state infrastructure, opening communication channels and opportunities,” he stressed.

Pedro Santos, commercial manager at Sinergás, contributed to the discussion by addressing the automotive market. “Transitioning to natural gas vehicles (NGVs) benefits companies, entrepreneurs, and the environment. There are great opportunities in this sector,” he pointed out.

The engineering and infrastructure perspective was provided by Júlia Maya, business development manager at Andrade Gutierrez, who spoke about the supplier chain. “The current industrial market has unique characteristics, and we need to offer customized solutions. Strong performance leads to repeat contracts and mutual partnerships,” she argued.

SOG25

The second day of SOG25 also featured discussions on the use of natural gas in fertilizer production and the potential for the decommissioning market in Sergipe. The ESG, Innovation, Commercial, and Business Arenas promoted connections between suppliers and companies, reflecting on industry trends and governance practices.
