The government expects 200,000 direct and indirect job vacancies to be created in the country with new investments planned as a result of the expansion of the Investment Partnership Programme (PPI). President Michel Temer predicted this on Tuesday (7 March) during a meeting of the PPI Council at the Presidential Palace.

The forecast is for R$ 45 billion to be invested in the projects, which are concentrated in the areas of energy, transportation and sanitation. “We must do it [start the works] soon, because what is most precious to us is the fight against unemployment," Temer said at the opening of the council meeting.

The PPI projects comprise of auctions, concessions and other operations that will encourage the private sector to invest in building and improving infrastructure in Brazil, benefiting all Brazilian regions. Temer believes that Brazil is entering a new stage of prosperity, with the decisive participation of the private sector.

Predictable rules

The Chief Minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency, Moreira Franco, said that the first PPI projects are now being executed, and have already started bringing benefits to the population. He then went on to present a schedule of new projects during the meeting. The schedule, along with more clear and defined rules, will provide more predictability to the country.

“Stakeholders (be they individuals or companies) need to know what will happen and what rules will apply, especially regarding assurances that these rules will be respected in the future," said Moreira Franco.
