The ANP (National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels) released today (October 30) a new version of its Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Dynamic Dashboard, an interactive tool that provides public access to GHG emissions data from activities regulated by the Agency. The updated version of the dashboard was presented today by ANP at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) Brazil.
In this second version, the dashboard now also includes data from the exploration phase of oil and natural gas contracts, in addition to the production phase, which has been available since the tool’s launch in February of this year.
The ANP has also increased the level of data granularity. CO₂ (carbon dioxide) and CH₄ (methane) emissions are now categorized by source type, and the tool now also includes N₂O (nitrous oxide).
These enhancements expand the potential for identifying opportunities to mitigate GHG emissions, supporting the development of targeted regulations and reinforcing the oil and gas sector’s commitment to Brazil’s climate goals.
The exploration phase is the first stage of contracts, during which operating companies carry out activities such as well drilling and seismic surveys to study the block and determine whether hydrocarbons are present.
At the end of this phase, the company decides whether to return the block to ANP or to submit a declaration of commerciality and retain a development area — thereby starting the second phase, the production phase. After ANP approves the Development Plan, the development area becomes a producing field.
