Germany’s Nordex (ETR:NDX1) said today it has been contracted to deliver the wind turbines for the 195-MW Lagoa do Barro wind project in the northeastern Brazilian state of Piaui.
Nordex will supply 65 units of the AW125/3000 machines for the particular project, which envisages building eight individual wind farms.
The German company expects to start delivering the turbines in mid-2017. It will use locally produced towers to make the machines. “This reduces capex, minimises the environmental impact and creates local jobs,” said Patxi Landa, chief sales officer at Nordex SE.
Project planners expect to achieve an above-average capacity factor of about 58%, Nordex said.
The order was made by local wind and hydropower projects developer Atlantic Renewable Energy, which is owned by private equity fund Actis. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
