"Strategic Hydrogen Map for Rio de Janeiro," a survey by the Federation of Industries of Rio de Janeiro, highlights the challenges and opportunities for energy development in Brazil. The document will be presented on Tuesday (9/7) at the "International Hydrogen Connection: a low-carbon future" event, starting at 9 AM at the federation's headquarters in downtown Rio.
T&B Petroleum/Press Office FirjanThe "Strategic Hydrogen Map for Rio de Janeiro," conducted by the Federation of Industries of Rio de Janeiro (Firjan) SENAI SESI, emphasizes the state's potential as a major hydrogen producer. This initiative comes as Brazil rushes to become a significant player in the hydrogen sector, especially with the impending approval of the Legal Framework for Hydrogen by the National Congress. Since 2022, over R$ 636 million have been invested in 46 projects across the country for hydrogen-related research and technology development, with more than half allocated to 14 projects specifically in Rio de Janeiro.
According to Firjan's Vice President, Luiz Césio Caetano, "We are committed to developing technologies and training professionals to address the numerous challenges needed to enable this fuel. We have a network of technology and innovation institutes conducting applied research projects with solutions to maximize hydrogen's potential."
Challenges and opportunities outlined in the document include regulatory frameworks, competitiveness of hydrogen prices against other energy solutions, technological development, and favorable business conditions to stimulate demand. Issues such as certification, standardization, storage, safety, and transportation are also highlighted.
Today, from 9 AM to 5 PM, Firjan, ABNT (Brazilian Association of Technical Standards), and ABH2 (Brazilian Hydrogen Association) hosted the "International Hydrogen Connection: a low-carbon future" event.
