Petrobras and Japan’s Mitsui study the construction of a regasification terminal for liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Rio Grande do Sul state. The technical and economic analysis of the project is expected to be completed in 12 months, according to a memorandum of understanding signed on Tuesday between representatives of the two companies and the Rio Grande do Sul governor, Tarso Genro. Petrobras director for gas and energy, José Alcides Santoro Martins, said the study will identify the capacity, investment, the period of the work and the location of the terminal. The project may bring the construction of a thermoelectric plant, in addition to the supply of at least part of the demand for the fuel in the South, which can no longer be provided by the Bolivia-Brazil gas pipeline (Gasbol).
