Petrobras AgencyPetrobras has announced that last Friday (Jan. 16) production commenced in the Lucius field, located approximately 236 miles (380 km) southwest of Port Fourchon, Louisiana, at a water depth of 7,086 feet (2,160 m).
Lucius was developed using a Truss Spar Floating Production Unit (FPU), a vertical cylindrical platform. The FPU has capacity to produce 80,000 barrels of oil and 12.7 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.
Leader in ultra-deepwater operations, Petrobras has added another production asset to its portfolio. Lucius is the fourth ultra-deepwater field in production in the US Gulf of Mexico. This project brings first oil from a Spar platform for Petrobras, in contrast to Company’s usual solution. The Spar platform is well-suited to this type of reservoir in the Gulf of Mexico.
The operator is Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, and Petrobras, as one of seven partners in Lucius, holds 11.5% interest. The field is in the Keathley Canyon area of the US Gulf of Mexico.
