Petrobras invests $ 100 billion in the sector
With the prospect of doubling oil production by 2020, Petrobras said on Tuesday (22) that it will invest $ 100 billion in the Brazilian shipbuilding industry between 2012 and 2020.'s Total orders in the period will be 28 probes, 49 vessels and 146 support vessels, 61 of these are already under construction and 26 have already been delivered. The forecast is hiring the remaining 59 support boats until October, which will total to 146 new boats.
In addition to these orders, will also contracted 38 production platforms, which will help to increase the production of oil from Petrobras to 4.2 million barrels per day in 2020.
The recovery of the shipping industry also leverage other industry segments such as machinery, heavy equipment, boilers, electrical and automation. The domestic content of these works ranges from 55 to 75%, relevant to an industry that has taken over their ability to perform from 2003 index. Since construction in the country of P51 and P52 platforms, ten years ago, the demands of Petrobras were responsible for breakthrough of the domestic shipbuilding industry and economic development of different regions of the country. 
In 2003, the sector employed 7,465 people in Brazil and today employs more than 75 000, reflecting the increase in oil production and investment in logistics and distribution. 2017 will generate over 25,000 new jobs, according to estimates from the National Association of Shipbuilding and Offshore Construction and Repair Industry (Sinaval).
