World Petroleum Congress (WPC) started on June 15th.
Petrobras AgencyPetrobras will attend this year's 21st edition of the World Petroleum Congress (WPC), the oil industry’s largest global event, which is to be held in Moscow, Russia, on June 15th to 19th. The congress, held every three years, already has 3,000 people registered to participate, including 30 government ministers and 400 company CEOs from more than 80 countries.
Petrobras’ director of Gas & Energy, José Alcides Santoro Martins, will participate in "The industry's role in promoting development" panel. The discussion will be hosted by Daniel Yergin, a Pulitzer Prize winner and vice president of international consultants IHS, and BP chairman Bob Dudley will be one of the panelists. Besides the industry’s role as a driver of economic development, the panelists will address the sector’s commitments to safety, the environment and enhancing the population’s quality of life. The discussion will take place on June 17th, between 8:30 and 9:30 am, Moscow time.
Paulo Sergio Rodrigues Alonso, advisor to the Petrobras CEO on local content and executive coordinator of Prominp (National Oil and Gas Sector Mobilization Program), will, on June 16th preside over the "Ensuring the security of supply of equipment, materials and local content infrastructure" forum. The occasion will be used to discuss the importance and challenges faced in supplying materials, equipment, technology, services and human and financial resources for the oil and gas sector. Special attention will be given to the local content policies of companies and governments in Brazil and elsewhere.
Anelise Lara, Petrobras’ executive manager for the Libra field, will participate in the special session "The next wave of upstream innovation". The principal aim of the session is to discuss recent and future technological innovations for oil and gas exploration and production on increasingly challenging frontiers. The session will take place on June 16th, between 4:00 and 5:30 pm.
Besides the special session, Anelise Lara will also participate in the "Deep Water exploration and production" forum, which will take place on June 17th, between 2:15 and 3:45 pm. On this occasion, she will present the paper "Challenges and Solutions to Develop Brazilian Pre-Salt Deepwater Fields", co-written by other employees in Petrobras’ Exploration and Production area. That same afternoon (between 4:00 and 5:30 pm), Petrobras Biofuel’s director for Ethanol, Milas Evangelista, will speak about the biofuel sustainability in the "Sustainability of biofuels from different feedstocks" roundtable.
Another area of Petrobras participation is the WPC Youth Committee. The manager Jaime Naveiro, who works in Petrobras Exploration and Production, is currently the vice-president of the committee and he will give a presentation on Petrobras to groups of young people from around the world, on the mornings of June 18th and 19th. Also on June 18th, between 4:00 and 5:00 pm, executive manager Anelise Lara will be back to address the young people on the "Youth - Guiding the Energy Industry towards a Sustainable Future" panel.
On the afternoon of the last day of the conference (June 19th, from 12:00 am to 1:00 pm), the Petrobras Exploration general manager, Jeferson Luiz Dias, will participate in the "How should we optimize cycle time from exploration to production?" round table. The occasion will be used to discuss ways of minimizing the time between the discovery of reservoirs and the production of the first oil from the fields, without jeopardizing the environment. Jeferson Dias will also be a speaker at the "Petroleum Habitats and New Exploration Frontiers in the South Atlantic Basin" workshop, on June 17th, between 12:00 am and 1:00 pm. His presentation will cover the existing oil systems in the South Atlantic and their use in the Brazilian offshore sector, as well as addressing exploration in the Brazilian pre-salt layer.
On Sunday, June 15th, between 8:00 and 10:00 am, Sylvia Anjos, Petrobras’ general manager of Geology Applied to Exploration, will give a presentation on "Women in the petroleum industry. A view from Petrobras – Brazil". This talk is part of the Women's Breakfast Forum and this Petrobras professional will talk about the progress of female geoscientists over the course of the company’s history, from the first hiring, in 1960, to the present day.
