In the week in which it celebrates 19 years of inauguration, Porto do Pecém resumed the so-called ship to ship - expression used in the maritime environment for the transshipment of fuels. That is, when a ship receives fuel from one or more ships, as the operation started today, or when the ship arrives loaded and overflows for two or more ships to transport the liquid bulk via cabotage (to ports in Brazil), or long way course (for ports in the world).

The operation started shortly after 7 am on Thursday (25), with the tanker STI Osceola mooring in berth 8 of the Multiple Use Terminal (TMUT) of the Port of Pecém. This is the first time that the vessel, with the Marshall Islands flag, docks at the Ceará terminal.

The STI Osceola arrived empty in Pecém for a few hours after being docked and started receiving 38,879 m³ of gasoline from the tanker Sérgio Buarque de Holanda. Separated by “yokohama” fenders, the vessels must be moored in contraband (in parallel) for approximately two and a half days until the entire volume stored at Sérgio Buarque de Holanda is fully transported to STI Osceola.

“Our operational team was very prepared for the return of this operation, as it involves more complex maneuvers in relation to others that we are used to doing in our day to day, due to the fact that we have two ships operating against the counter, with the side of a vessel leaning against on the edge of the other. That is, in a parallel position, with one ship exactly next to the other. In addition, high-performance hoses are used in this operation to allow the rapid transfer of fuel from one ship to another ”, points out Waldir Sampaio - Director of Operations at Porto do Pecém

During the weekend, the vessel Sérgio Buarque de Holanda must untie to make room for another vessel, the vessel Stena Conqueror, which will overflow another 10,075 m3 of gasoline for the tanker STI Osceola. This second transfer stage should take less than 24 hours due to the smaller volume to be transferred from one vessel to another.

“We are very pleased to be able to resume this operation, which has not been carried out here in Ceará since 2014. I personally endeavored to bring it back to Pecém and fortunately we were able to demonstrate to Petrobrás our technical capacity and how strategic the Pecém location for fuel overflow. I can also say that this operation is also a gift for all our professionals, since it happens again exactly in the week when Porto do Pecém celebrates 19 years of operation ”, says Danilo Serpa - President of Complexo do Pecém ( CIPP S / A).

Latest fuel transhipment movements in the Port of Pecém

2014 - 707,612 tons

2013 - 629,981 tons

The destination of the fuel transhipped this week at the Ceará terminal will be the port of New York, in the United States, where the ship should arrive in approximately 10 days. The transfer of fuel at the Port of Pecém becomes regular and continuous, with another operation scheduled to be carried out next week.
