The Solar Impulse -2, ultralight fully solar powered, is already prepared for a journey that will mark the history of air transport. The model will be the first to take a trip around the world without a drop of fuel. The board, products and solutions from Bayer MaterialScience, Innovative Materials division of the Bayer Group, ensure that the aircraft is lighter and has more energy efficiency, in addition to providing thermal insulation of the cockpit.
The aim of the Swiss breeders, Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg, is to educate society about the need to save energy resources of the planet and show that this is possible.
The first prototype was known to have crossed the Atlantic to the United States from coast to coast with only solar energy. But still was not able to conquer the globe because research has shown that his wings had not size (63.4 meters) and not sufficient for this journey receptor cells of energy (12 000). Have the new version receives solar energy for about 17,200 cells and its length is 72 meters, the same or even greater than those of passenger aircraft. With these changes, the new ultralight now has 2.3 tons.
The ultralight leave the Persian Gulf and will go to India and the Pacific Ocean.
