This was the message that the president of the Brazilian Institute of Oil and Gas (IBP), Roberto Ardenghy, at the opening ceremony of Rio Oil & Gas 2022 (ROG 2022), the largest event in the O&G sector in Latin America, promoted for 40 years by the institution.
At the ceremony held at the Museum of Tomorrow, with the support of Shell, one of the sponsors of this ROG, he recalled the beginnings of the event that grew along with the sector.
Ardenghy highlighted that the sector projects US$183 billion in investments over the next few years, mainly in the upstream (exploration and production of hydrocarbons), aiming not only to increase productivity, ensure more operational safety and reduce costs, but also other initiatives aimed at decarbonizing operations.
He also spoke of the importance of ensuring diversity in this industry, inviting Maria Cristina Quesada to the stage to receive a tribute as the first female platform head. The delivery was made by the only female member of the team of authorities, the president of Equinor Brasil, Veronica Coelho.
The Equinor executive will receive another tribute this afternoon, at the event “Sim, Elas Existem!”, a collaborative, non-partisan and voluntary initiative with the objective of guiding the discourse on diversity and gender inclusion in the energy sector in a positive way, exalting the valuable contributions of competent professionals in the sector'.
According to Renata Isfer, partner of Petres Energia and one of the leaders of this movement, tributes will be paid to professionals who stood out in this regard. The Personality of the year is Verônica Coelho, while the former president of Shell, André Araújo, will receive a tribute in the He For She category and Marisete Daddald, former Executive Secretary at the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), in the Legacy category in the sector power.
The president of Petrobras, Caio Paes de Andrade reiterated that the company intends to invest US$ 2.8 billion in actions to mitigate carbon emissions over the next five years, as foreseen in its strategic plan. The executive made the statement through a video, as he could not attend because he was undergoing cancer treatment, but was represented by the director of Exploration and Production at the state-owned company, Fernando Borges.
Also participating in the opening ceremony were the Minister of Mines and Energy, Adolfo Sachsida, the Minister of the Environment, Joaquim Leite, and the Mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes, among others.
