Rosatom and University of Buenos Aires announces winners of nuclear power competition

The ceremony was held in the Faculty of Engineering.

The University of Buenos Aires, through the Faculty of Engineering (FIUBA) and Rusatom Overseas JSC, a subsidiary of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom firm, responsible for the promotion of Russian nuclear technology in global markets, announced the winners of the first national competition of essays "Peaceful Applications of Nuclear Technology". The ceremony was held in the Faculty of Engineering.
Within the framework agreement between the two organizations, was launched in August the first national competition of essays "Peaceful Applications of Nuclear Technology" aimed at advanced undergraduate and graduate students that address applications of nuclear technology to the fields of industry, medicine, biology and agriculture.
36 academic works were submitted for the contest. They were evaluated by international jury that included the INVAP, the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA), the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (ARN), Nuclear Argentina SA (NA-SA SA), Balseiro Institute. Mr. Bolshov (CEO of IBRAE-RAN), Mr. Laaksonen (Vice President of JSC Rusatom Overseas), Specialists for Science at the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Argentina represented Russia.
During this morning's ceremony were announced the prizes and awards in the Hall of Acts on the said house of higher learning studies, were leading authorities attended, between them are:
Dr. Eng. Carlos Alberto Rosito, Mr. Dean of the Faculty of Engineer from UBA.
Mr. Ivan Dybov, Vice president, Head of Public Relations Department of Rusatom Overseas JSC.
Eng Horacio Salgado, Mr. Dean Elect of the Faculty of Engineering of the UBA.
Bruno Cernuschi Eng, Mr. Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of the UBA.
Mrs. Lucia Valentino, in charge of the Education and Training Unit of the ARN.
Alejandro Margetic, Authority and Training Unit of the ARN.
Ms. Ana Larcher, Authority and Training Unit of the ARN.
Eng. Joseph Salla, Programming Manager at ATUCHA II.
Eng. Oscar Mazzantini, Manager of Licensing, Nuclear Safety and Core Design, Nucloeléctrica Argentina SA (NASA),
Representatives of INVAP,
Representatives of Argentinian and international press.
In the contest there were three main winners and eight special academic mentions. The competition was attended by the students and graduates from Argentina, Uruguay, Venezuela and Colombia. The first three positions won a special trip to visit the facilities of Rosatom in Russia:
1. Nancy Gates Yepes "Radiation Protection of the patient: dosimetric quantification of renal protective effect of arginine with administration LU 177 in dota-sp-normal NIH mice and extrapolation to standard patients"
2. Martín Silva "Development of a program to calculate the power distribution on Atucha II by modal synthesis method based on the readings of the detectors"
3. Nayibe Lucia Buitrago Montañez "In vivo study of boron neutron capture (BNCT) for experimentally liver metastases: tumor control and experimental condition for radiotoxicity"
As a second part of the program the opening ceremony of the exhibition dedicated to the Russian nuclear technologies was held. Two innovative applications were presented by Rusatom Overseas JSC at the School of Engineering: a mobile app NPP model with the elements of "augmented reality", exposing about new technologies and their contribution to innovation in the field of nuclear energy and a sample of the facilities of Rosatom in Russia with a tridimensional display (created by research and design institute VNIPIET) where were showed innovations and safety measures Rosatom put into practice in the NPP. 
Also at the exhibition were presented panels that explained in a visual, coherent and complete manner the history of nuclear energy, the history of the production of nuclear energy in Russia, main information of ROSATOM, the relationship between ROSATOM and Argentina and specific guidelines to understand the process of development of nuclear energy in general and with the new Russian technologies that enhance the safety of the procedure.
The exhibition dedicated to the Russian nuclear technologies will be open to visitors till December 9 at the Faculty of Engineering.
